Ramesses II in Chariot

Ramesses II in Chariot

Papyrus 879

Papyrus width: 24" Papyrus height: 17", Papyrus Art width: 18 1/2" height: 13" Hand painted and signed on AGED papyrus. A rather accurate depiction of Ramesses II as displayed on the south wall of the great hall at Abu Simbel, where he attacks the enemies of Egypt in his chariot. In the full scene, before him is a Syrian fortress and in his rear are depicted three of his sons, also in chariots. This portrayal is more accurate than that of Granz Chretien Gau, who painted the scene without the Atef Crown that Ramesses II wears.
