Small Rosetta Stone GS44A


Discovered in July of 1799 by Napoleon's French Army in the Delta region of Egypt, near the branch of the Nile called the Rosetta, it has three styles of writing inscribed on its surface. Jean Francois Champollion was credited with deciphering hieroglyphics from the Rosetta Stone and thus giving scholars the key to understanding hieroglyphics. It now resides in the British Museum.
