Jim Brown Prints
These lithographs are museum quality artworks, painted in brilliant, authentic colors and painstaking detail. Jim Brown claims to have had a life long love affair with ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. He recalls the indulgence of his parents who let him decorate the walls and stairwells of the rec room of their new home with full size pictures of Osiris, Anubis, Rameses' chariots and Tutankhamun's tomb walls when he was still a high school student.
After raising a family through a career with the Federal government and painting as a hobby everything but Egyptian pictures for nearly forty years, he again has returned to recapturing the beauty of those ancient works of art from over three thousand years ago.
Jim's goal is to reproduce, as closely as possible, the original tomb wall paintings in a smaller size, but true to each detail and authentic color of the original painting. His paintings also attempt to restore the complete, original picture by restoring those portions that have been damaged by the effects of time, weather, neglect or vandalism over more than 30 centuries. The strict adherence by the ancient Egyptian painters to rigid canons that governed the colors, proportions and stylized figures in their paintings makes it possible to fill in large gaps that have been destroyed and to bring these works of art back to their original beauty.
The vibrant colors and painstaking detail of these paintings enhance the timeless appeal of this unique art form from so many centuries in the past, and they are sure to please both the scholars and laymen who are drawn to the beauty of this ancient civilization.
Jim has adopted the hieroglyph for scribe to add to his signature. This is because of the nature of hieroglyphics, which were the means to communicate with the gods and to assure the afterlife of the patron whose tomb was being painted, required that all scribes be artists, and all artists be scribes. |
